Gato Negro 2009 Malbec

November 26, 2009

Price: around $4

Color: Violet Red

Nose: Black currant

Taste: A little spice up front. Mild tannins. Medium bodied with so-so taste.

Summary: This Malbec is produced by the good folks at San Pedro Vina in Chile, that put out the famous Gato Negro value line of Chilean wines, however the harvest in this case is Argentinian. So in reality this is considered an Argentinian wine under supervision of a Chilean producer. Oh well, I’m still rating it.

After I finished off the tasting sample I had an additional glass along with a spicy Indian vegetarian dish. It was good and the wine got better tasting as it went along with this meal. Goes to show the value of a good accompaniment.
