Color: Light Goldish Yellow
Nose: A nice strong bouquet of fruit. Melon, peach, tropical fruit.
Taste: Ouch. Bitter is the first and strongest element here. Completely out of balance. Not pleasant.
Summary: This wine is “especially selected” by Fresh & Easy markets. Up until the time I tasted this wine, I really thought that everything that Fresh & Easy did was very well thought out. This is a pretty big mistake in my eyes, I don’t know what purchaser/tasting set of individuals would have chosen this wine. I can only surmise that they did not taste it at all. I don’t want to harp on this too much, but its sad that some people may find this wine and trust F&E’s usual good judgement and then go home and say to the world, “I’ll never buy Chilean wine again”. Yes, its that bad.
Trader Joe’s did a similar thing with the “Vinas Chilenas” private label but with a much different result. At $4, TJs Vinas Chilenas is an incredible buy. Unlike this wine which you should try to NOT find.
Oh well. Later on this week I’ll be trying out Hacienda Altavina’s Carmenere selection at the same price point. I’m actually a little scared.
