Monkey Puzzle 2005 Merlot

April 21, 2010

Price: around $7

Color: Deep red

Nose: Black fruit and tobacco

Taste: Thin bodied.   Very little astringency leading to a nice smooth finish.  Hint of mocha.  Balanced.

Summary: Monkey Puzzle is also known as the Araucaria Araucana.  It happens to be Chile’s national tree.  I learned something new today.

I also re-learned that its great to take a chance on unknown Chilean wines priced under $10.  Like this bottle which I had never heard of.  Its bottled by Vicar S.A and imported by G&G Co. out of Calabasas, California.  The grapes are harvested from the Maule Valley in Chile.  Wine is rated at 13% alcohol level.

This is the only wine that I have enjoyed more than any other. Was able to purchase it at Asda stores in uk a few years ago. Now not available is it possible to order and have this wine delivered to my address in the uk?.
