Montes 2008 Cabernet Carmenere

Price: Around $15

Color: Deep red-purple

Nose: Black cherries, plums, and vanilla

Taste: Big and dense right from the get go.  Beautiful tannins.  Packs a wallop of good flavor that didn’t require airing time to appreciate.  Silky and long finish.

Summary: Nicely balanced wine.  I wasn’t really expecting to like this blend as much as I did.

If I had blind tasted this wine I would have pegged it at $30+ retail, and I would have been wrong.  A nice value here.

The blend is 70% Cab and 30% Carmenere, and I dare say the Montes wine maker got his percentages right on!

This Limited Selection wine originates from Montes’ Apalta vineyards in Chile’s Colchagua valley.
